How to Spot a Bombay in a Cat
1 ....) Shiny, black fur.
This breed is a cross between a sable Burmese and a black American Shorthair, known as "Domestic Shorthair" in the UK. As a result, they have a short, glossy coat that is black from the roots up, much like the Indian black leopards that their ancestors were crossed with.
2...) Gold or copper eyes
- A Bombay's eyes are always the color of gold or copper, and they are often rounder and bigger than those of an ordinary cat. Their black fur and this characteristic have earned them the moniker "the patent-leather kid with the new penny eyes...

3...) Rounded features
Bombays have rounded ears, a round face, and a short, rounded nose, just like the panther they are bred to look like. They also have rounder feet than other cats do, and even the tip of their tail is rounded rather than pointed.
Contrary to popular belief, Bombay cats do not have unusual teeth or unique fangs from other cats. The breed standard contains no information on the teeth of bombay cats; they are just like other cats in this regard.

- If you're comparing a Bombay cat to a regular black cat, the black cat will typically look leaner and longer than the Bombay.
5...) Swaying walk
These unusual cats walk like panthers in addition to having a similar appearance! A typical black cat would move like any other cat, but a Bombay adopts the wild cousins' pace, swaying and swiping their rounded paws to give the impression that they are continually on the prowl. Their unique gait enhances their enigmatic and refined appearance, further differentiating them from other feline friends. Their strong frame and glossy black coat only serve to highlight how much they resemble a little panther....
